COVID-19 Update from Rep. Grant Wehrli

My legislative office is receiving calls from constituents with questions about the coronavirus. Here are some quick answers to the most frequently asked questions my office is receiving, and a list of quick-links for additional information:

  • The March 17 Primary Election will proceed as planned. You can early vote today, or vote at your normal polling place tomorrow.
  • People are encouraged to work remotely for the next few weeks if possible. For those who cannot, please practice and promote social distancing (keep 6 feet of distance between people).
  • If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms please DO NOT go to the emergency room. Please call your primary care physician, and if you do not have a primary care physician, please call the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) coronavirus hotline at 1-800-889-3931.
  • The federal Small Business Administration is providing disaster assistance loans for small businesses impacted by coronavirus. Additional small business guidance and resources is available at:
  • If you are without access to paid sick leave or unable to work because of COVID-19, you can apply for unemployment insurance. Call the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) at 1-800-244-5631 or visit
  • Large scale events of 1,000+ people are canceled for 30 days. The CDC has recommended the cancellation of all events over 50 people for the next 8 weeks.
  • All K-12 schools- public and private – across the state, and all early learning programs, will close through March 30th. Some schools are moving to E-learning. If you have K-12 school-aged children, your specific schools will share their learning plan.
  • Effective March 17, all restaurants and bars are closed through March 30th, but drive-thru, delivery, and curbside pickup are still available. Check your local restaurant for their offerings.
  • The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) announced the closure of all state parks, fish and wildlife areas, recreational areas, and historic sites as well as the cancellation of upcoming scheduled events.
